Tax Preparer

Prepare individual and small business returns alongside Belinda, and sit with the people whose returns you are preparing. This is a role for someone who likes getting it right and likes explaining it plainly.

This is a sample listing, not a real opening. It shows the shape of a real posting. It is excluded from search indexing and emits no job structured data, so nobody finds it and applies for a job that does not exist.

Employment type
Full time, with a seasonal option
Location
In office, Bardstown Road, Louisville KY
Schedule
Weekdays, with longer hours during filing season
Posted
January 6, 2026

What you would be doing

  • Prepare individual and small business returns from client documents.
  • Meet with clients, ask the questions the forms do not ask, and explain the return before it is filed.
  • Follow up on missing documents patiently and without making anyone feel foolish.
  • Keep careful notes so the next person to touch a file knows what happened.
  • Flag anything unusual rather than guessing at it.

What we are looking for

  • Experience preparing tax returns, or closely related accounting work.
  • A valid PTIN, or the ability to obtain one before filing season.
  • Comfort talking with people about money without rushing them.
  • Accuracy, and the habit of double checking your own work.
  • Clear written and spoken communication.

Nice to have, not required

  • Enrolled Agent credential, or working toward one.
  • Small business, self-employed, or Schedule C experience.
  • Familiarity with Kentucky and Louisville local filings.
  • Bookkeeping or payroll exposure.

Pay

We have not published a range for this role. That is not a dodge, it just has not been written down for this website yet. We talk about pay plainly in the first conversation, before either of us spends much time, and we will not waste your afternoon if the number does not work for you.

How to apply

Start with a conversation

Send a short note about yourself and why this appeals to you. A formal cover letter is not necessary. If you have a resume, attach it. If you do not have one yet, say so and tell us what you have done instead.

Please do not send a Social Security number, date of birth, bank details, or a photograph of your ID when you first get in touch. No legitimate employer needs any of that to start a conversation, including this one. This site does not accept resume uploads, because no secure, configured file storage is set up for it. Attach your resume to an email instead, or bring it to a conversation.
